British Fashion Council appoints Karen Blackett CBE to board
The British Fashion Council (BFC) has appointed Karen Blackett CBE to its board of directors.
Blackett takes over from June Sarpong, whose term ends in June.
Blackett has experience in Government, media and marketing, including senior roles at major agencies and as a business ambassador for the Department for International Trade at 10 Downing Street.
Blackett has also served as a non-executive board member for the Cabinet Office and as the prime minister’s race equality business champion.
She has led a number of diversity and inclusion initiatives in her previous roles.
As part of the executive board, Blackett will support the British Fashion Council’s work to promote British fashion and develop its world class programmes that support creative talent.
Blackett said: “I am excited to join a brilliant team and to help however I can ensure that the contributions of the British fashion industry are understood, championed and cherished.
“It’s a sector we should be extremely proud of and one where we continue to pioneer.”
David Pemsel, chair at the British Fashion Council, said: “Karen’s appointment comes at a critical time for the British fashion industry.
“She brings an established relationship with government and a strong track record in shaping policy and fostering cross-sector collaboration.
“Her invaluable experience will strengthen the BFC’s ability to advocate for the industry and ensure British fashion remains a vital part of the UK’s cultural and economic landscape.
“We look forward to welcoming her to the Board.”
