Fashion photography graduate captures global success

Fashion photography graduate Becky Crichton has found success since completing her degree at Bath Spa University in 2024.

Crichton, who was part of the first cohort of BA fashion photography students, was shortlisted for the fashion photography award at Graduate Fashion Week and finished with a portfolio titled ‘Muliebrity’, focusing on femininity, womanhood and dynamism.

Her background as a certified dancer has helped her create dynamic shots highlighting movement.

After graduating, Crichton worked with photographers including Paul Woodman at Rankin Creative and collaborated with brands such as Rolls Royce and Mini.

She also worked with Bristol artists on album covers.

Crichton then moved to Dubai, where she took a role as PR junior account executive at Gambit PR & Communications.

She worked with clients including Essilor Luxottica, Ray Ban, Oakley, the Emirates Literature Festival and Comic Con.

Crichton said: “I help develop dynamic campaigns and secure fantastic media coverage for events such as the launch of the new Ray-Ban metas in the UAE and the Spring/Summer 2025 Essilor Luxottica Press Day.

“Building connections with publications such as Elle Arabia, Harpers Bazaar, GQ, and many more.

“All while keeping my love for photography alive through freelancing and building my personal brand, BX Photography.”

Crichton has photographed runway and backstage moments at Dubai Fashion Week and shot for the luxury brand Nicillian.

She has attended networking events and workshops in Dubai, including those hosted by Sony, and was mentored by Sony ambassador Timothy Matthews.

Reflecting on her time at Bath Spa University, Crichton said: “Looking back, my time at BSU was truly pivotal.

“The hands-on experience with real clients gave me the confidence to bridge the gap between study and the professional world, and being proactive in securing internships that helped me grow rapidly.

“Now, I’m balancing a role as a Junior Executive in PR with my freelance photography, all while building genuine connections and letting opportunities evolve naturally.”

Crichton added: “I believe that success comes from a mix of passion, persistence, and a whole lot of hard work.

“Trust me, when you find something you’re passionate about, it will truly make you want to push to find all these opportunities.”

Bath Spa University’s BA fashion photography course offers hands-on experience at the Locksbrook campus and is currently ranked first in the South West for satisfaction with teaching.

Crichton advised current students: “If I could give advice to current or future students at BSU, I’d say: trust your instincts and stay true to your creative vision.

“There were moments when I was told to change my ideas, but pushing through and standing by my own voice earned me respect and growth.

“Don’t compare yourself to others-your path will be uniquely yours. Invest in yourself, push your limits, and let your authenticity shine.”
