Leigh Taylor ‘slow fashion’ showcased at Urban Outfitters
Slow fashion brand Leigh Taylor held a pop-up at Urban Outfitters in Liverpool ONE on 31st May and 1st June, showcasing sustainable designs with artisan textiles.
Leigh Mansfield, a masters in fashion innovation student, approached Urban Outfitters and was offered space in the high street store after presenting her artisan-textile inspired collection.
The range included hand-sourced textiles from Guatemala and statement pieces made in her UK studio.
Kayla Owen, programme leader MA fashion innovation & realisation, said: “This is a major opportunity for Leigh who has worked tirelessly to create some very special clothes.”
Mansfield relaunched her label, Leigh Taylor, as part of her MA project.
Mansfield said: “The collection blends artisan craftsmanship with wearable design combining hand sourced textiles from Guatemala with statement pieces made in my UK studio.
"I’ll also be launching a small run of graphic T-shirts and one-of-a-kind mirrorwork jackets that I developed in collaboration with artisans in India."
Earlier this year, Mansfield visited artisan cooperatives around Lake Atitlán in Guatemala.
She added: “I sourced hand-loomed fabrics directly from a women-run weaving studio, documented the process, and worked with the makers to understand the traditional ikat techniques they use."
The Leigh Taylor brand is designed and manufactured in the UK by Mansfield.
